The Institute of Population and Public Health (IPPH) is one of 13 institutes that make up the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Government of Canada’s health research funding agency. IPPH’s mission aims to improve the health of populations and promote health equity in Canada and globally through research and its application to policies, programs, and practice in public health and other sectors.

The full-time Communications and Events Management Specialist will help promote and advance the Institute’s mission and mandate. They will develop communications products and strategies and plan and coordinate Institute events for internal and external audiences and partners.

Daily tasks/challenges

  • Support the development and implementation of the Institute’s communications strategy and communications campaigns, in close collaboration with the IPPH staff team, the CIHR Communications team and partners
  • Lead and/or assist with the planning and implementation of Institute events, including receptions, community forums, webinars, workshops, consultations, Institute advisory board meetings and conferences
  • Support the knowledge mobilization efforts of the team, including the creation of visually appealing content for the IPPH website, newsletter and social media accounts, and contribute to the production of Institute reports, presentations and infographics
  • Manage and publish the Institute’s newsletter and other email campaigns; manage and keep up to date the Institute’s social media accounts, website and email marketing platform (audiences and subscribers)

What do you need to succeed in the role?

  • Post-secondary education (Bachelor’s) in communications, journalism, public relations or related field
  • Strong project management and event planning skills
  • Strong writing and editing skills with ability to develop content for various media and audiences
  • Solid design and layout skills with experience using graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experienced in social media management (eg., Twitter, LinkedIn, newsletters), communications campaign/strategy development and performance measurement/data analytics
  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Fluency in French and English, oral and written
  • Experience in communications and events management or public health and/or the health sector field considered an asset
