Transcript

We believe that every child deserves the chance to live to their fullest potential. The Institute of Human Development, Child & Youth Health is proud to be one of 13 institutes that make up the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. It's our mission to foster growth and equity across our research community to advance science, promote knowledge and ways of knowing, and address the needs of children, youth and families in Canada and globally. We convene researchers and partners, champion research in areas of strength and need, and build capacity within our community - ensuring reconciliation, diversity, equity and inclusion across our activities. Our Strategic Plan focuses on research that promotes better beginnings, vibrant childhoods, and empowered youth, within a lifecycle context. It was developed in collaboration with many voices and builds on the momentum within our research community to shape a bold vision for the future that puts children, youth and families at the heart and centre of what we do.

IHDCYH Areas of Focus: Better Beginnings, Vibrant Childhoods, Empowered Youth

Transcript

Our Strategic Plan centres around three areas of focus: We want to ensure the best start in life. Better Beginnings supports the earliest years, from pre-conception through reproduction, pregnancy, infancy, and early childhood. We want children to lead healthy, happy lives. Vibrant Childhoods addresses the needs of children to improve health and help them thrive as they navigate the complex systems of our changing world. We want to encourage youth to take charge of their lives. Empowered Youth engages youth and hears diverse perspectives to ensure health and equity continue from teenage years to maturity and adulthood. Visit us online to find out more.

IHDCYH Priorities: Convene

Transcript

The path forward involves convening our community around the common goal to strengthen research, mobilize knowledge, and shape policy. We'll do that through building purposeful partnerships, facilitating interdisciplinary collaborations, engaging children, youth and families, and sparking success in the research community to make the most of funding opportunities. Working together, with many voices and diverse approaches, we can achieve our goal. Visit us online to find out more.

IHDCYH Priorities: Champion

Transcript

There are thousands of people in our research community making a difference for children, youth and families and we want to champion their efforts. We want to see new knowledge generated in areas of strength and areas of need. We want to see that knowledge get into the hands of people who can use it now. We want to see Indigenous voices reflected respectfully, supporting an Indigenous path in everything we do. And we want to see others adopt a lifecycle approach in their research, recognizing and valuing the fact that age, life stages, and intergenerational factors impact health. Visit us online to find out more.

IHDCYH Priorities: Capacity Build

Transcript

We need to build capacity to make sure that our research community is set up for success today – and into the future. We're focused on supporting diverse career pathways and strengthening key infrastructure to improve efficiency, amplify impact, and nurture a thriving research environment. We will continue to engage with our community, shape a comprehensive data strategy and take a holistic approach to the career pathway for current and future members of our health research community.
