Update on Project Grant peer review process
June 20, 2016
Peer review for CIHR's first Project Grant competition is underway. As we are embarking on a new process with virtual review and online discussion, CIHR is carefully monitoring how these new systems are working.
As of Monday June 20, nearly 15,000 reviews had been submitted to assess the 3,820 applications received. CIHR staff is diligently following up with a small number of reviewers to solicit their reviews before the deadline of June 23.
CIHR thanks all of the reviewers and Virtual Chairs for their incredible dedication to the first stage of the process. The time that they took to give applicants valuable feedback, participate in the online discussions, and flag any quality concerns regarding the written comments provided by reviewers is very much appreciated. We do realize that there have been some technical and process challenges to work out, so we also want to acknowledge the extra time and effort that they are putting in as we address those issues.
The final assessment stage, a face-to-face committee discussion, will take place at the beginning of July to discuss "grey zone" applications, with particular emphasis on applications with large variances in independent reviewer rankings.
We look forward to sharing additional information with you in the coming weeks.
