CIHR is considered a small department and is not subject to the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS). However, CIHR is subject to comply with the Cabinet Directive on the Environmental Assessment of Policy, Plan and Program Proposals, and is bound to the Policy on Green Procurement.

Target 7.2: Green Procurement

As of April 1, 2014, the Government of Canada will continue to take action to embed environmental considerations into public procurement, in accordance with the federal Policy on Green Procurement.

Scope and Context

The department procures over $10 million in goods and services per year, in multiple commodity categories. Greening of our procurement will be integrated throughout our activities, including its grant application and peer review processes, business travel and professional services.

Departmental green procurement targets

CIHR is considered a small department and is not subject to departmental procurement targets, but does plan to track the following performance indicators to monitor its performance.

By March 31, 2016, 100% of copy paper will contain recycled content to reduce the environmental impact of its production.
